An estimated 800 million pairs of jeans are produced around the world every year, representing an enormous environmental impact in terms of the cultivation of cotton. Lenzing's argument is that its Tencel, a lyocell fibre which is produced from wood pulp, represents a more efficient use of land with a higher yield per hectare and a considerably lower consumption of water.
