The consumption of fiber, an essential part of the human diet, is associated with the reduced risk of certain diseases, such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and obesity. It also helps to reduce the occurrence of constipation, diverticulosis and other disorders of the digestive tract, as well as contributing to our overall well-being. Dietary fiber is an integral part of many naturally-occurring substances such as grains, cereal products, fruit and vegetables, and many Governmental institutions and nutritionists are advocating increasing whole grains, fruit and vegetables in the diet as part of a reduction in disease risk strategy.
