The Australian dairy industry has a high priority for the management of bovine Johne's disease (BJD) in Australia. During 2015, the dairy industry actively participated with representatives of other cattle industry sectors and jurisdictions to a review conducted by Animal Health Australia of the National Strategic Plan for managing BJD in Australia. After decades of controls for BJD, Australia has established a favourable situation with a low prevalence of infection in comparison with other countries. The revised national approach in 2003 involved more emphasis on industry-led measures and a less regulated approach to build producer cooperation. This was adopted by the dairy sector; however, different Australian states managed the disease differently.
