The Art of Private Veterinary Practice: Ensuring quality communication when irreconcilable differences occur within the practice setting

When Dr. Edgerton hires two associates with excellent medical and surgical skills, he envisions them as the fulfilment of his dream to provide clients and their animals with a full range of state-of-the-art veterinary services. And if one scans the new additions' résumés, this indeed appears to be the case. However instead of enhancing the practice, for a while it appears that Drs. Schueller and Ceretti seem more likely to destroy it. This occurs because lifelong city-dweller Dr. Schueller considers herself an ardent animal rights supporter as well as vegan; she finds hunting and the raising of animals for food abhorrent. On the other hand, Dr. Ceretti comes from a long line of ranchers and hunters who have maintained, and continue to maintain what she considers a deep concern and respect for the animals with which they interact. She thinks in terms of animal welfare rather than animal rights, and considers animal rights terminology anthropomorphic and inflammatory.
