Intragastric pH With Oral Versus Intravenous Bolus Plus Infusion Proton Pump Inhibitor Therapy in Patients With Bleeding Ulcers

We read with interest the article entitled "Intragastric pH with oral vs intravenous bolus plus infusion proton pump inhibitor therapy in patients with bleeding ulcers." Laine et al conducted a well-designed study comparing frequent oral (lansoprazole 120 mg bolus followed. by 30 mg q3h) versus IV lansoprazole (90 mg bolus followed by 9 nig/h infusion) in patients with peptic ulcer bleeding. They concluded that frequent oral proton pump inhibitor (PPI) administration may be able to replace IV PPI in these patients. There are some points that needed to be discussed.
