The effect of N (annual application of 0, 300, 600 or 900 g N/tree), applied as ammonium nitrate (33.5% N) 4 or 6 times/year during 2 growing seasons (1988-90), on the mineral content of developing fruits of date palms (cv. Khasab) was investigated.N application had no significant effect on fruit N content except during later stages of development during the second season. N application also had no effect on fruit P and K concentrations. N application had no effect on fruit Zn concentration duringthe first season, but did have an effect during the second season. The concentrations of Mn and Fe in fruits increased significantly with application of 600 g N/tree at early stages of fruit development during the first season. Generally, the concentrations of P, K, Mn and Fe in fruits decreased with development.
