Pesticides in fruits and vegetables, rotten meat, salmonella in eggs -every three years or so a food scandal is shaking the EU. Consumers today want to know exactly what they are eating. Was the cool chain broken? Were the pears treated with pesticides? In times of global trade it is not so easy, however, to guarantee the safety and traceability of goods. The supply chain consists of many single processes that are intertwined. At each interface,for example during packing or in the distribution centers, errors can occur. The problem is that there is no continuous flow of information.
