Welcome home to your family of produce professionals. No matter where you grow, process, ship or sell, there are common links that bind this industry together, I certainly recognize the great progress industry has made in adopting new technologies togreatly enhance efficiencies. And while companies have also made great strides improving traceability in their operations, we are still missing a common language to connect us, to enable rapid identification of products as they move through the supply chain. To put it simply, our information systems are not speaking to one another. A year ago, I said that closing the traceability gaps in our supply chain must be our priority. I was pleased to announce then that PAAA, the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPAAA) and United Fresh Produce Association were jointly creating a Produce Trace-ability initiative. Its purpose? To develop an action plan to drive adoption of consistent and effective traceability best practices across the produce supply chain. A year later, I'm delighted to stand before you and say that the Produce Traceabifity Initiative has delivered.
