ASEPTIC FILLING IN PET BOTTLES: NEW SYSTEM FOR HANDLING BOTTLES AND CLOSURES WITH HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

Besides the field-proven option of cold-aseptic filling with the PET-Asept process featuring peracetic acid, meanwhile up and running successfully at more than 50 clients, KRONES has developed "dry sterilisation" using hydrogen peroxide (H_2O_2) as analternative. One of the salient advantages for the use of H_2O_2 is the significantly reduced water consumption levels, with concomitantly downsized amounts of effluent, since the bottles and closures sterilised with this method need not be rinsed withsterile water. The vaporous sterilising agent is removed using air. When certain types of closure are being handled, such as sportscaps like push-pull or flip-top closures, H_2O_2 sterilisation likewise produces advantages, since some of these closures cannot be treated using liquid disinfectants.
