Fruit Tree Selection in SOuthwestern Texas

During the year that we searched for a home in Austin, my wife spent considerable time inside the houses while I looked around the yards to see what kind of fruit trees grew in this area. My plan was to select fruit trees recommended by the county agent for the Austin area and then supplement with untested apricots and other specific grafting material. It was not possible to bring any grafting material from San An-gelo because of the time lag and difficulty in finding another home. I did bring a fewpersimmon and apritoi seeds from my former orchard, but the trees in San Angelo had died in the meantime because of no care by the new owners. My son graciously allowed me to grow those seeds in pots at his place in Austin until we eventually found a home.
