Chile diversifies seasonal deciduous fruit exports to U.S. market

The reverse season advantage for exports of deciduous fruit from Chile to the United States began decades ago with significant shipments of grapes and stone fruits. In early 2008, shipments of grapes, apples, and plums were down but dramatic gains forsome newer items helped to push up the total value for U.S. imports of fresh fruit from Chile. Sensational gains for fresh blueberries and cherries for Chile's deliveries to U.S. importers in early 2008 portrayed the way research has helped to keep thetotal value of horticultural export moving upward.
