Highway 97 connects Dawson Creek in the far north of Canada with California. High above it and Lake Okanogan in Summerland, British Columbia is the Pacific Agri Food Research Center, one of eighteen research institutes run by the Canadian Ministry ofAgriculture. Here, headed by plant physiologist Dr. Cheryl Hampson, different varieties of apples are developed, tested and examined as to whether they are suitable for planting in Canadian apple plantations.
