More Apples from the South

WAPA - The World Apple and Pear Association - met at the Fruit Logistica Fair in Berlin on February 8, 2007. The association published the consolidated crop forecasts for the forthcoming southern hemisphere apple and pear crop. The statistics show that the total apple crop in the Southern Hemisphere (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa) will be at 4.5 million t, the pear forecast at 1.35 million t. For apples this will be an increase of 9% on the 2006 crop, while for pears only a slight increase will be noticed. These forecasts for apples are below the 2003-2006 average, and up 7,1 % for pears.
