My son Tim and I began our latest spur-of-the-oment tour on Christmas Eve, 2011; we headed for Australia. To us Christmas travel seems less challenging than other wintertime dates, plus with our penchant fpf learning about tropical and rare fruit, it-makes sense to seek a place where fruits are ripening on the trees, regardless of higher travel costs due to inflation. So we began this 23-day "holiday" by quickly purchasing two round-trip tickets to Sydney, emailing a few key Australians reputed as fruit experts, and trading our regular Chase credit ard in for a blue Sapphire card to avoid higher ex-hange rates and fees. Be aware: not all credit cards are accepted in Australia. Indeed, do not assume this island nation to like other places; many things are vastly different there despite having the English language in common with Americans.
