The world is trading just shy of 3 billion barrels of crude oil per day on the three main regulated exchanges — a record 33 times the daily global fuel consumption. Daily trading volumes keep rising with more speculative money pouring in, more producers and refiners hedging oil, and high-frequency traders now an established feature in high-speed electronic oil trading.
