In two model regions of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the options for cultivating energy nurse crops are examined. Energy nurse crops are to be a further component towards increasing wood fuel and industrial round wood supply in the mid-term. For forest enterprises, as well as for energy wood consumers, the concept of energy crops is literally virgin soil. In this investigation, the hypothesis will be proven that co-operative business models are supportive factors for successfully implementing energy nurse crops and marketing the additional small-sized wood. To this purpose, pilot co-operations between pilot-energy consumers and regional forest enterprises have been initiated. Currently, a survey is being conducted which allows, among others, evaluating the supportive potential of co-operative business models.
