摘要

Ownership of the U.S. oil and natural gas industry, through various financial instruments, "is broadly distributed," with only very small portions of shares held by high-level corporate management, a report from the American Petroleum Institute (API) claimed. As such, a large proportion of the benefits of oil and gas company stock ownership goes to middle class Americans, the industry‘s "true owners," API declared, with nearly half of the shares of the U.S.-based oil and natural gas companies held through their public and private pension and retirement plans, including 401(k)s, and IRA‘s. "Individual investors own 20% and financial institutions and asset management companies own 27%.
