Calais LNG Proposes Terminal in Maine and Pipeline Connecting Maritimes & Northeast; More Natural Gas Would Displace Use of Fuel Oil in the Region

Last month, Calais LNG Project Co. LLC (CP10-32) filed an application under section 3 of the Natural Gas Act (NGA) to site, construct, and operate a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import, vaporization, and storage facility on the St. Croix River in Calais, Maine. The facility would store up to 1,006,400 barrels of LNG in each of three storage tanks, re-vaporize and deliver 1 Bcf/d (1.2 Bcf/d peak), and include a system for truck loading of LNG at a maximum rate of 350 gallons per minute (gpm). The company expects to have confirmed its sources of LNG supply before construction start-up.
