Environmental Protection Agency Airs Some Criticism of Thoroughness of State Department's Review of Keystone XL Project So Far

The Sierra Club and other environmentalist-leaning organizations this week leaped on critical remarks authored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that appeared to reinforce claims of critics that the State Department’s latest attempt at conducting an environmental review for the Keystone XL pipeline project came up short. EPA submitted an objection and rated the Department's new draft environmental impact statement (DSEIS), which builds on State's August 2011 Final EIS and includes information regarding a new proposed route in Nebraska, as “insufficient” for failing to adequately consider greenhouse gas emissions, pipeline safety, and alternative routes.1
