Senate Energy Committee Conducts Nomination Hearings Featuring MOELLER AND LaFLEUR FOR FERC JOBS; SEN. WYDEN GIVES NOMINEES AN EARFUL on FERC's Inclination to 'Trample' on States' Siting Concerns
Current FERC Commissioner Philip Moeller and newly appointed Cheryl LaFleur presented their qualifications for the FERC job before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on 4/27/10. Barring unforeseen controversies, both candidates seem a sure bet. Moeller is completing his first four-year term as a commissioner. He was re-nominated by President Obama on March 8 for a second term that would end on 6/30/15. LaFleur, a 20-year veteran of the New England utility industry, was nominated by Obama at the same time, to serve a term that would end on 6/30/14. Energy Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), who moderated the hearing, said the President had "chosen wisely," and that both of the nominees were "extremely well qualified."
