UGI Storage Defends Plan to Acquire Natural Gas Assets in Pennsylvania from Central Penn Gas and to Operate the Facilities in Interstate Commerce under New Market-Based Rates and Structure

UGI Storage Co.'s (CP10-23) plan to acquire natural gas storage assets in Pennsylvania from UGI Central Penn Gas, Inc. (CPG) (CP10-24) triggered protests from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PA PUC); (2) the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate (PA OCA); (3) Atlanta Gas Light Co., and the National Grid Gas Delivery Companies, Pivotal Utility Holdings Inc. d/b/a Elizabethtown Gas, PSEG Energy Resources & Trade LLC and South Jersey Gas Co. (collectively, the SS-1 Customer Group). Additional comments of Dominion Transmission, Inc. (DTI) and Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co. LLC also followed UGl's certificate application on 11/19/09 to acquire from CPG and to operate in interstate commerce certain existing gas storage assets, comprising CPG's interests in the Meeker, Tioga and Wharton fields together with appurtenant facilities in Pennsylvania. Approximately 14.7 Bcf in working gas capacity currently subject to regulation by the PA PUC would change hands.
