FERC Clears Expansion of Midland Gas Field in Kentucky to Boost Firm Storage and Deliverability; Texas Gas Will Charge Bifurcated Storage Rates

The Commission authorized Texas Gas Transmission LLC (CP07-405) to conduct a phased expansion of its Midland Storage Field in Muhlenberg County, Ky., to provide up to 8.25 Bcf of new firm capacity and up to 92.2 MMcf/d of new firm deliverability. Some equipment will be abandoned in place. This sixth expansion since Midland was originally certificated in 1969 is designed to accommodate not only two current customers but also anticipated storage demand to be created by the Rockies Express East Pipeline (CP07-208). Midland Phase I entails facilities needed to provide 5.31 Bcf of firm storage capacity for the two expansion shippers as of 11/1/08; Phase II entails facilities needed to provide the entire 8.25 Bcf of storage capacity as of 11 /1 /09.
