ENERGY INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION AFFIRMS SHARPLY HIGHER NATURAL GAS RESERVES BASE IN U.S.;CRUDE OIL SUPPLIES ALSO INCREASED

The Energy Information Administration(EIA)reported that U.S.total proved reserves of dry natural gas(based on data collected in 2007)increased to 237.7 Tcf,the highest level since 1976.This is the ninth year in a row that the reserves total reported by the agency increased.According to the report,Advance Summary:U.S.Crude Oil,Natural Gas,and Natural gas Liquids Reserves 2007 Annual Report,U.S.dry natural gas production(19.5 Tcf)grew 5% last year but record-high additions of 46.1 Tcf were more than double the amount of gas produced,raising the 2006 total proved reserves estimate of 211.1 Tcf by another 26.6 Tcf(13%)to 237.7 Tcf,"the highest level in the 31 years that EIA has published annual reserves data."
