In 2007, ConFor produced a policy on renewable energy that, for the first time, brought together views from across the sector. It was a significant achievement and enabled the sector to influence emerging country strategies, supporting the developmentof wood for fuel. Recent developments, however, have required ConFor to reassess its position. ConFor's policy recognised that there was strong political interest in wood energy and that the different markets - co-firing with coal, local heat and large-scale electricity or power - could have very different implications for the existing forestry and wood-using sector.
