We all know the Mackenzie Country is a great-looking piece of New Zealand. As tourists we've driven through the Mackenzie. As New Zealanders many of us have read the stories set there and seen the famous photos of its tussock-covered landscape, and breathtaking vast open spaces.What's not so readily apparent - but is just as important - is that the Mackenzie is home to a host of rare and endangered plants. Some are unique to the Mackenzie Basin. These have adapted over thousands of years to the Mackenzie's extremely cold and dry conditions.
