摘要

A recent project funded by Defra and carried out at the University of Stirling and Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) was undertaken to examine how management during gestation/very early life relates to offspring welfare and productivity (Rutherford et al, 2012). The project looked at the major UK livestock groups: cattle, fish, pigs, poultry and sheep. As part of the project the Institute of Aquaculture and SRUC collaborated to compile a review of early life experimental studies in fish. The aim was to gather information on potential dangers during the early life of animals, with the aim of improving animal welfare and farm efficiency.
