AADDs is about to hit the market, thanks to Ace Aquatec's recent new generation of innovations in deterrent design - a range of measures made possible thanks in part to a 75% government SMART award towards the company's research and development. Officially unveiled at August's Aqua Nor exhibition, the Dingwall-based firm has sought to counter the criticisms levelled at conventional ADDs by coming up with a number of innovative alternatives. As Ace Aquatec's CEO Nathan Pyne-Carter explains:'Our main competitors produce lOkilohertz (kHz) deterrents and these devices are constantly switched on.The problem with this, however, is that consistency of the sound and the lack of variation in the tone means that predators such as seals may become habituated to the devices over time, rendering them increasingly ineffectual.
