The term "biosecurity" is now well entrenched in the shrimp farmer's lexicon and biosecure protocols have become integrated into a farmer's standard operating procedures. However, the global shrimp farming industry continues to suffer crop losses from disease. New pathogens are emerging, well-known pathogens are evolving to create more virulent strains, and some of these pathogens are spreading across major shrimp farming regions of the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
