The Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre has marked its first year of existence with major research initiatives. Together with industry, academic and government collaborators, SAIC launched E2.9 million total funding on two projects investigating the use of lumpfish in sea lice control.And a further E1.9 million will go to establishing a commercial mussel hatchery in Scalloway, Shetland.The projects were announced last month at a conference for industry leaders, scientists and students, held in Edinburgh's Dynamic Earth.Scotland's Deputy First Minister John Swinney, who was the keynote speaker at the conference, said: 'Scotland's aquaculture industry makes a vital contribution to our economy.
