2003 was an important year for the Association, which celebrated its tenth anniversary of service to contractors and the forestry sector. Chairman Matthew Rivers reports. The start-up of the fledgling FCA took place in 1993, after much individual effort linked to a vision which saw the need for a voice for the contracting workforce; little did those involved at that time know the monster they were creating! A monster that would advance the professionalism of the contracting workforce; that would achieve acknowledgement for the expertise and professionalism of contractors; that would win funds for training and up-skilling of the whole workforce; and, that would see forceful lobbying for the contractor in all arenas of decision-making, not only in the regions and the UK, but also in Europe.
