Almost all Confor members will be familiar with the two chief pillars of the FSC system: FSC's forest management standards (in Great Britain and Northern Ireland embodied in the UK Woodland Assurance Standard) and the rules for handling FSC-certifiedmaterials as they make their way through the chain-of-custody, eventually to be sold to end users. Those operating within the chain-of-custody will be only too aware that it is at present primarily a paper-based system, relying on the issuing and receipt of invoices, bills of sale, haulage certificates and the like, all of which record the details currently required by FSC for each transaction.
