Rayleigh wave inversion for the near-surface characterization of shallow targets in a heavy oil field in Kuwait

The distortions induced by the near surface and itsheterogeneities present major challenges for landseismic explorationists. Some standard techniqueswith intrinsic limitations can fail in the presence ofa complex near surface structure, for instance when veloc-ity inversions are involved. The correction of near surfaceperturbations is more important for low relief structures, andfor shallow and thin targets.
