摘要

Chalk is a reservoir rock with a proven history of hydrocarbon discoveries dating back over the last four decades in the UK North Sea. These discoveries include the Ekofisk field (1969), the Machar field (1976) the Banff field (1991), and the Curlew C field (1993). The hydrocarbon province of the Chalk play covers the Danish, Norwegian, and UK sectors of the Central North Sea. The Norwegian sector has the largest proven reserves with about 3800 million barrels of oil and about 12,100 billion cubic feet of gas whilst UK reserves are much smaller with 300 million barrels of oil and 1 trillion cubic feet of gas (Millennium Atlas, 2002).
