There are now five companies working on bio-succinic acid worldwide. Jim Lunt of Jim Lunt & Associates believes that, of the “building block” chemicals, bio-succinic is the closest to commercialization. At this stage DNP Green Technology/Bioamber and Myriant appear to be in the lead; but DSM is already well entrenched in the market, and BASF, DSM and Mitsubishi are all large petrochemical companies with the resources to play catchup.
