Mobile masterpiece: A Brisbane company aims to evolutionise the catering ndustry with a patented, fully self-contained mobile restaurant, five-star kitchen and bar, which can cater for 120 to 500 guests

IT'S AN AUSTRALIAN - if not world - first and is being touted as one of the most exciting innovations to emerge in the function catering sector. Brisbane company, Boutique Venues which runs Cha Cha Char Wine Bar & Grill at Eagle Street Pier and Yeronga convention and wedding venue Wanganui River Gardens, is responsible for developing the unit, dubbed Gourmet en Counter. The mobile restaurant is 8m long and 2.4m wide, and can be located just about anywhere. Since its launch, Gourmet en Counter has picked up the Restaurant and Catering Queensland 2004 award for Best Corporate Caterer and was a finalist for Best Corporate Caterer in the 2004 Restaurant & Catering Australia Association awards.
