Corneal blood staining is caused by the deposition of hemoglobin and its breakdown products within the cornea after anterior chamber hyphema. The incidence of corneal blood staining following traumatic hyphema is between 2% and 11 %.It is usually associated with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), and corneal transplantation is required in severe cases. Spontaneous clearance of the blood staining begins peripherally and progresses toward the centre of the cornea, and the clearance is usually very slow and incomplete.
