Argentina's Congress is convening a special committee to evaluate the findings of recent studies suggesting that the herbicide glyphosate poses an immediate threat to the environment, farm workers, and consumers.Producers fear the worst, because the committee includes key figures in the recent high-profile campaign against glyphosate (see FCN June 15, Page 6)."Now that we have pinpointed incidents in which glyphosate harmed human health, we have an urgent obligation to spread the word as much as possible. The government isn't inclined to do it for us and the corporations involved would rather remain silent on public health issues in order to protect their financial interests," says Andres Carrasco, a medical professor at the Universidad de Buenos Aires.
