Dingell food safety bill lands with big changes from 2007 draft

A yet unknown fee to be charged food companies to help support all FDA inspection activities, not just imports; no limit on the ports that can be used to import food into the United States; and closed loopholes in food traceability laws. Those are just a few of the changes included in the 107-page Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act of 2009, unveiled Jan. 28 by Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.), Frank Pallone, Jr. (D?N.J.) and Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), compared to draft legislation reviewed by Dingell back in late 2007.
