Two congressmen question handling of FDA criminal investigation office

Two Republicans are continuing to rattle the cages of FDA's Office of Criminal Investigations (OCI) by questioning whether dramatic budget increases have resulted in more criminal arrests. Reps. Joe Barton, (R-Texas) ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and John Shimkus, (R-Ill.) ranking member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, sent a Dec. 5 letter to FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach asking for information by early January on FDA's handling of the criminal investigations office. OCI has primary responsibility for all criminal investigations, including suspected tampering incidents and counterfeit products.
