The Cornucopia Institute, the self-described watchdog of the organic industry, last week accused retail giant Wal-Mart of failing to take action on its complaint last year that many stores were selling non-organic foods as "organic" (see FCNNov. 20, Page 18). Cornucopia expressed surprise "that more than four months after inforn1ing the company of the problen1s, which could be interpreted as consumer fraud'.tand two n10nths after filing a formal legal complaint with the USDA, the federal agency regulating organic labeling, many of the deceptive signs at Wal-Mart stores are still in place."
