This paper discusses the 5 Federal expenditures for food assistance: Food Stamp, National School Lunch, WIC, Child and Adult Care Food, and School Breakfast Programs. The goals of these programmes are: to provide needy people with access to a morenutritious diet, to improve the eating habits of our Nation's children, and to help America's farmers by providing an outlet for the distribution of food purchased under farmer assistance authorities. It is recommended that nutrition education be an integral component of all nutrition assistance programmes.
