For years, the packaging industry has been characterised by high costs for raw materials, energy and transport, increasing competition from rivals in low-wage countries, accelerating development cycles and faster delivery. The challenge of cost-effectively and reliably conducting packaging projects is therefore nothing new — it considerably pre-dates the current economic crisis. Strategic supply partnerships and alliances offer brand owners and packaging companies the synergies they need to master it. An example is the 'Global Packaging Alliance' (GPA).
