Coca-Cola Teaming with JBF Industries To Produce Bio-Based Glycol for Bottles

Sao Paulo-Coca-Cola Co. has entered into a partnership with JBF Industries, to further expand production of bio-glycol, the key ingredient in Coca-Cola's PlantBottle packaging. Coca-Cola in 2009 introduced its first PlantBottle packaging-the first recyclable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle made partially from plants. Since then, the company has entered into several partnerships aimed at 100 plant-based PET materials, most recently with H.J. Heinz, Ford Motor, Procter Gamble and NIKE (PCN, 11 June 2012, p 2).
