Bernard Oosterom is Flora-Holland's chairman since 2009, finding himself amidst a world economic crisis with low prices for flowers and plants, and decreasing incomes for the professional grower. On top of that the consumption of ornamentals dropped significantly. FloraHolland reacted adequately by adapting the annual budget. In the face of continuing economic uncertainty, costs were cut and plans were made to freeze investment. The number of employees was cut back, happily without forced dismissals.Despite these measurements the auction did not raise their tariffs for the work and activities for the members and the buyers. An additional V2 % of the annual liquidity levy was given back to the members to support them on the moment the need was high.To strengthen the sales association in such difficult times deserves great respect. 2010 showed an enormous improvement although December was cold and icy resulting in too low prices for flowers and plants. The auction turnover came back on the 2008 level with a turnover of EUR 4 billion.
