Huntsman invests 150 M to relocate textile colorants manufacture

Huntsman Corp completed the SFR 332 M acquisition of the Textile Effects business segment of Ciba Speciality Chemicals in July 2006.It recently announced a programme for raising earnings before interest,tax,depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA)from less than 10% to 14-16% of sales revenue by 2009.The programme will cost an estimated 150 M,entailing 650 job losses,mitigated by the creation of 300 new jobs.Three textile colorants plants will be closed - at Saint Fons (France);at St Gabriel,LA and at Charlotte,NC (in the US).Effectively,Huntsman will transfer production to plants at Mahachai (Thailand);Atoto (Mexico);and Basel (Switzerland).Also,in Switzerland,Huntsman will gradually withdraw from Schweizerhalle,where it currently has production and storage facilities,relocating those activities at Basel.
