Export duty on Malaysian CPO reintroduced

Starting Apr 2016, Malaysia will introduce a 5% crude palm oil (CPO) export duty after 11 months of zero duties. According to Publiclnvest Research, the high tax gap between refined and crude palm oil would provide incentives to increase utilization levels, which have fallen under 50% year-to-date. The research body projects an increase in utilization rates to at least 70% in the next few months with the re-launch of export duties.
