Washing without water: nylon beads in washing machines

Xeros, a UK company spun off from the University of Leeds, has developed a new laundry system that uses just a cup of water to wash a typical load of fabrics and considerably less energy than conventional washing machines. Dirty laundry, a small amount of detergent, and the water are placed in the smaller of two concentric drums that also contains nylon beads a few millimetres in diameter. Dirt is removed fromjthe wetted laundry before being absorbed by the nylon beads.
