After a weak 2014, the Mexican cosmetics and toiletries market is recovering again. Increases in taxes had hit purchasing power in 2014 and the devaluation of the peso made imported products more expensive. Sales volumes are expected to grow 3% in 2015 after just 1% in 2014. Retail sales were up 3% by volume in the 12 months to Apr and up 3.9% by value. Mexico is Latin America's second-largest cosmetics market after Brazil and the most important exporter in the region. The market in cosmetics and toiletries is worth $10.5 bn.
