Very tight sulphuric acid supply in northwest Europe has not been sufficient to boost global sentiment in the face of falling sulphur prices. Acid spot prices in the US Gulf and Brazil have started to trend downwards, in spite of very low import quantities from European sellers. Lower copper prices and plentiful acid supplies have also reversed the previously bullish trend in the Chilean market, while some Chinese sulphur burners have responded to the weak market by scheduling maintenance shutdowns.
