NW EUROPE: A northwest European company has settled its Q1 2009 contract price at $1,300/t P2O5 cfr with Morocco's OCP for the import of phosphoric acid during the first quarter of 2009. Fourth quarter contracts with the Moroccan producer were agreed at $2,100-2,150/t P2O5 cfr in northwest Europe. The new price settlement has come as a surprise to many market sources and to buyers of phosphoric acid in Europe which deem the price as too high, as recently renegotiated Q4 2008 contract business into India has been concluded at $850/t P2O5 cfr. Given that the Moroccan company has a substantial equity stake in the European company, it is reasonably debatable whether the contract price is representative of a market price. As such, the Phosphoric Acid cfr NW Europe price point remains unchanged this week pending further Q1 contract settlements in northwest Europe.
